IBOA seeks early meeting with IBM over BoI IT contract
Issued : 2 July 2010
IBOA The Finance Union has noted the decision by Bank of Ireland to award a major contract for IT services to IBM when the current contract with HP expires at the end of this year. This work was previously performed in-house within the Bank - with many former Bank of Ireland employees transferring with the work when it was contracted out to HP four years ago.
Following earlier representations to both Bank of Ireland and the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment, Mr. Batt O'Keeffe, to ensure that the terms and conditions of employment of the staff will be properly protected upon the transfer of the contract, IBOA General Secretary, Mr. Larry Broderick, said today that the Union will be seeking an early meeting with Bank of Ireland and IBM to address a number of issues including job security and terms and conditions of employment for its 200 members - who currently work on the Bank of Ireland contract in HP - as well as agreed arrangements for the co-ordination of the transfer with HP.
"Our members in HP, who have followed this work from Bank of Ireland, have considerable experience in providing this service to Bank of Ireland. Our members would like the transition to the new situation to be as smooth as possible. The new contractor, IBM, can play its part in achieving this transition by providing the necessary assurances to the Union and its members about the continuity of terms and conditions and other entitlements," added Mr. Broderick.
