General Secretary - Larry Broderick
General Secretary since 2001, Larry Broderick has been employed by IBOA since 1985 and has a wide range of experience in industrial relations and the financial services sector. A graduate of UCD and holder of a MBS, Larry Broderick leads a professional team representing the interests of staff working in the financial services sector in Ireland and Britain. A member of the General Executive Committee of ICTU and the Finance Committee of UNI-Europe, Larry has served on a number of national and European bodies representing staff working in the financial sector.
Senior Training and Industrial Relations Officer - Marian Geoghegan
Marian has a dual role within IBOA. She co-ordinates and designs training courses on a range of topics from labour law to worker representative skills. In the industrial relations area, she has general responsibility for equality. Marian is also on the co-ordinating committee of the Women at Work Skillnet – which offers a range of training opportunities for Union members in both wokrplace skills and personal development.
Senior Industrial Relations Officer - Gerry Hanna
Gerry joined IBOA in 2005 as a Senior Industrial Relations Officer. Gerry has been involved in the trade union movement all his working life. A bank official with Northern Bank in 1974 – joining IBOA at that time – before eventually becoming a full- time trade union official with AEEU and National Officer with Amicus. Gerry is responsible for members in the Bank of Ireland Group. Northern Bank, National Irish Bank, Carillion and International Currency Exchange.
Administration Manager - Jane Higgins
Joining the staff of IBOA in 1981, Jane has served in a number of adminstrative roles in the Union. She has been Events Manager for a number of years before that role was incorporated into the broader post of Administration Manager - which involves co-ordiating the administrative and clerical functions in IBOA House. In this capacity she is also responsible for the general upkeep of the Union's premises in Dublin and Belfast.
Recruitment Organiser - Gareth Murphy
Working with IBOA since July 2007, Gareth started his working life as a Customer Service Official for AIB Ark Life where became involved in trade union activity. Gareth leads recruitment campaigns across the three jurisdictions working closely with IBOA members to build membership. He also seeks to organise workers in non-unionsed areas to ensure they are represented. As Secretary to the IBOA Youth Committee, Gareth is especially interested in the concerns of young members and staff. Gareth holds a BA from UCD and an MA from Trinity,
Head of Research and Information - Rosemary Platt
One of the Union's longest-serving staff members, Rosemary co-ordinates the collection and collation of all information concerning our members' pay and allowances as well as terms and conditions of employment, workplace entitlements and legal rights (including the applicaton of European Directives in the national context). With her colleague, Margaret Clements, Rosemary provides information and guidance on all of these issues to members. Rosemary is also responsible for the Union's historical archive.
Communications Manager - Seamas Sheils
Former Head of Publications and Public Relations in SIPTU, Séamas is IBOA's Communications Manager. In a multi-faceted career he has fulfilled the roles of magazine and newspaper editor, print designer, copy-writer, video editor, script-writer, event co-ordinator and press officer. He also has a first-hand understanding of the role of the volunteer activist – having served as National Chair of the Irish Section of Amnesty International.
Executive Committee Members
President - Jessie Doherty
A Senior Bank Official based in AIB Bank, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, Jessie has been a member of IBOA since 1978 and a member of the Union's Executive Committee since April 1999. She also served as the Union's AIB Group Officer from 2001 to 2007. Jessie was elected as Honorary Finance Officer in April 2007 and President in 2011. An IBOA-nominated Trustee on the AIB Defined Benefit Group Pension Scheme and a member of the AIB-IBOA Partnership Steering Committee, she also serves as Secretary of the IBOA Staff Pension scheme. Her particular interests include pensions, pay and participation by members.
Honorary Secretary - Tommy Kennedy
Honorary Secretary since 2005, Tommy served previously as IBOA's Ulster Bank Officer. An Executive member since 1996 for Ulster Bank staff in the Dublin area, Tommy previously served as a Branch representative in Dun Laoghaire from 1979 to 1987. Currently based in Ulster Bank's Donnybrook Branch, Tommy began his career with the Bullion Department in College Green in 1977. Subsequent postings included Dun Laoghaire, College Green, Blackrock, Rochestown Avenue, Dundrum and Bray. Originally from Limerick, he enjoys football and when Limerick win a hurling match.
Honorary Finance Officer - Sharon McAuley
With more than 25 years banking experience - including 12 years in various branches - Sharon has also worked on a number of marketing and communications projects within First Trust Bank.
First elected to the Executive Committee in 1995 as a women's representative for AIB UK, she now represents FTB members in Belfast and District.
Involved in the evolution of the Partnership Principles in AIB Group, Sharon has also been a Trustee of the AIB UK Defined Benefit pension scheme since 2008.
She was elected as Honorary Finance Officer in 2011.
AIB Group Officer - Claire Walsh
Originally from Mayo, Claire has worked for AIB in Dublin, the UK and mostly recently Longford. An Executive Committee member since 1999, Claire previously served as a Branch Representative, Area Council member and Bank District Secretary.
Married to Sean O Suilleabhain, with three children, Claire's interests include GAA (both football and hurling) travelling, reading and theatre.
Bank of Ireland Group Officer - Dave Keane
A member of the Executive Committee since 1993 representing the South East, Dave Keane has been IBOA's Bank of Ireland Group Officer since 2005. Dave previously served as IBOA's Sports and Social Secretary. He worked in Bank of Ireland's Enniscorthy Branch for over twenty years before being seconded to Service Delivery. Dave is married with three children. His main interests are golf and soccer.
Danske Bank Group Officer - Robert Thompson
Robert joined Northern Bank in 1977 and has worked in a number of Branches in the Armagh area. An Executive Committee member since 1995, he was National Australia Group Officer before National Irish and Northern Banks were acquired by Danske Bank. Keenly interested in health and safety and pensions issues, Robert represents IBOA on both the NICTU and Northern Bank Health and Safety Committees. He also served as a Trustee of the Northern Bank Pensions Scheme. Robert has obtained IOSH accreditation and a Masters in Law and Employment Relations. His leisure interests include photography, clay bird shooting, water skiing and motor sport.
Ulster Bank Group Officer - John Burns
Ulster Bank Officer since 2007, John became an IBOA member in 1989 and served as Branch Representative in several locations in his native South Down and as District Secretary in Armagh from 1997 until his election to the Executive Committee in 2004. An Ulster Bank Branch Manager in Newry, John is also a Trustee of the Ulster Bank Pension Scheme and a member of IBOA's Pensions Sub-Committee.
Executive Committee Member - Elaine Barker
Employed as a Senior Bank Official in Bank of Ireland in Sligo, Elaine Barker has been a member of IBOA since 1977 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2002. She has also served as a Branch Rep, Area Council member and Bank District Secretary. Her particular interests include health and safety issues and promoting equality for all.
Executive Committee Member - Robin Bell
Robin works in First Trust Bank in Belfast in Project Management. A member of IBOA since 1978, He was first elected to the Executive Committee representing First Trust in 1991. Robin served as IBOA's Honorary Secretary from 1997 to 2005. He is also a Trustee of the AIB UK Pension schemes.
Executive Committee Member - Dominic Boyd
Employed as Customer Sales Consultant in Bangor Branch of Bank of Ireland, Dominic Boyd has been a menber of IBOA since joining the bank in 1986. He has served as Branch Rep in numerous branches, then as Bank District Secretary for Belfast and District in 2004. He has been on the Executive Committee since 2005. His workplace interests include stress/health and safety, education and training, and social events for members.
Executive Committee Member - Irene Breen
Employed as a Senior Bank Official with the Relief Staff, Dublin South in Bank of Ireland, Irene has been a member of IBOA since 1979 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2001. She has also served as Rep in Cash Control, College Green, Tallaght and Ballyfermot and Bank District Secretary for Dublin. Initially elected to the Woman's Reserved Seaton the Bank of Ireland EC (while that seat existed), Irene's particular workplace interests include equality - with a particular interest in disability-related issues in the financial services sector.
Executive Committee Member - Pat Carson
Elected to the Executive Committee in 2000, Pat Carson has represented staff at various levels. He has also served as a pension trustee since 2001.
Executive Committee Member - Chris Cavanagh
A Service Official in the Dublin South Circular Road Branch of National Irish Bank, Chris has been a member of IBOA since he joined the Bank in March 2005. A Branch Rep from June 2005, Chris became a Bank District Secretary in May 2007 and an Executive Committee member in October 2007.His main focus is on protecting the terms and conditions of our members.
Executive Committee Member - Neasa Cody
Neasa is currently working in AIB Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, having previously been employed as Relief Staff, covering branches in Kilkenny and North Tipperary. Neasa is a long serving Executive Committee member and has given much of her time to resolving individual and local issues in the Branch Network.
Executive Committee Member - Moya Cotton
A Service Officer for Northern Bank in Dungannon Branch, Moya first joined IBOA as an Ulster Bank employee from 1966-1970. She rejoined when taking up employment with Northern in 1990.An IBOA Representative from 1997, she was elected to the Executive Committee in 2001. Her particular interests on the Executive Committee are recruitment and equality. Outside IBOA and work, Moya has seven children and fourteen grandchildren. She also breeds dogs.
Executive Committee Member - Carmel Curran
Employed as Senior Bank Officer in Meadowbank in Derry, Carmel joined IBOA on the same day she started work at the former TSB in March 1985.
She has been a member of the Union's Executive Committee since 1995 - firstly as a Women's Rep for First Trust Bank and then as the representative for the Outside Belfast constituency.
Carmel also serves on the Union's National Health and Safety Sub-Committee as well as being one of the Union's representatives on First Trust Bank's Health, Safety & Enviromental Committee.
Executive Committee Member - Renee Dolan
Renee Dolan represents Ulster Bank employees in the Republic of Ireland outside Greater Dublin on the Execuive Committee. Employed in Ulster Bank's Castlerea Branch, Renee has been an IBOA member since 1991. An experienced IBOA Representative, Renee has served as a Bank District Secretary since 2001.
Executive Committee Member - Fionnuala Duignan
An IBOA member since 1981, Fionnuala was elected to the Executive Committee in April 2009 - having previously served as an IBOA Rep and as a Bank District Secretary for the Midlands Region of National Irish Bank. An IBOA-nominated pension trustee and an experienced health and safety representative, Fionnula works in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.
Executive Committee Member - Mick Durand
A member of IBOA since 1970s serving as Branch Rep in various locations and District Secretary for Athlone, Area Secretary for Mullingar and Bank Secretary for Galway, Michk Durand is now EC Member for AIB North West.
During his career in banking, he has worked in Clogheen, Nenagh, Portlaoise, Edenderry, Ballinasloe, Tuam and Galway City.
Apart from the Union, Mick's main interests area hurling, rugby, horse racing> He also enjoys gardening and leisure cycling. He is married to Nora with 3 children.
Executive Committee Member - Eileen Gorman
Employed as a Senior Cards Adviser in Northern Bank's Cards Services Department, in Donegal Square West, Belfast, Eileen Gorman has been a member of IBOA since 1991 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2007. She previously served as a Branch Rep from 1995 and as a Bank District Secretary from 2005. She is particularily interested in equality.
Executive Committee Member - Brendan Hannon
Brendan is one of four Bank of Ireland's Executive Committee members representing members in the Dublin area.
Brendan has particular responsibility for members in Dublin departments.
Executive Committee Member - Roger James
Employed in AIB's Staff User Support in Dublin's Citywest, Roger has been an IBOA member since 1985. An experienced Branch Representative, he was elected as a District Secretary in Dublin in 1995 and as an Executive Committee member in 2007. Key workplace issues for Roger are the protection of hard won terms and conditions, such as pay and pensions.
Executive Committee Member - Mairead Kelleher
Employed by Bank of Ireland in Listowel, Co Kerry, Mairead has been a member of IBOA since she took up employment with the Bank. Mairead has been a member of the Executive Committee since April 1993. She is also a member of IBOA's Equality Sub-Committee and a Trustee of the Bank of Ireland Staff Pension Fund.
Executive Committee Member - Stephen Kennedy
Employed as a Financial Advisor in Bank of Ireland at 32 South Mall Cork, Stephen Kennedy has been a member of IBOA since 1976 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2007. He has also served as Bank of Ireland Cork District Secretary. Stephen has been particularly active in promting social activities for members in the South West - including the annual visit to Fota Wildlie Park and the Cork pantomime. His particular interests include health and safety in the workplace.
Executive Committee Member - Ciaran Mahon
Employed as an Audit Relationship Manager in the Internal Audit department of Bank of Ireland, Ciarán Mahon has been a member of IBOA since 1970 and a member of the Executive Committee since 1993. A former IBOA Bank of Ireland Group Officer, Ciaran's particular interests include communications and equality issues, in both Bank of Ireland and within IBOA.
Executive Committee Member - John O'Gorman
Employed as an Officer in the Clondalkin Branch of AIB Bank, John has been a member of IBOA since 1971 and a member of the Executive Committee since 2007. He has served as a Branch Representative in all nine branches in which he has worked and was a District Secretary for two years before his election to the Executive. He is a member of the Equality Sub-Committee in IBOA with a particular interest in diversity issues. His other interests are golf, the theatre and cinema. John is a director and trustee of Candle Community Trust Limited
Executive Committee Member - Seamus O'Keeffe
A member of the IBOA since 1974, Séamus has been considerable experience as an activist at various levels within the Union - matching his career experience working in Branch, Unit and Departmental environments within AIB during this time. Elected to the Union's Executive Committee in April 2011, Séamus is a member of IBOA's Pensions Sub Committee. His key concerns are to ensure that members are treated with dignity, respect and fairness by senior management - as well as protecting existing terms and conditions of employment in a very challenging environment.
Executive Committee Member - Ian Perth
Ian Perth has worked in financial services since 1999. He is currently employed as a Financial Planning Manager with Ulster Bank covering the Dublin Area. Ian was elected to IBOA's Executive Committee in 2010. Ian is passionate about the ongoing fight to protect and improve terms and conditions for financial staff, as well as ensuring each member is treated with respect in every aspect of their working lives.
Executive Committee Member - Margaret Power
Margaret Power joined IBOA in September 1980 on taking up employment with Bank oif Ireland. She has served as IBOA Representative in many of the locations in London where she has worked over the years. A member of the London District Liaison Committee since the early 1990s, Margaret has served as an Executive Committee member since 2003. She has a particular interest in health, safety and security. and serves on the Union's National Sub-Committee.
Executive Committee Member - Liam Ross
Liam started work with Bank of Ireland in 1976 and joined IBOA on his first day. A Union Rep in a number of branches and a member of Armagh Area Council and Armagh District Secretary, Liam became a member of the Executive Committee in 1997. Currently located in Banbridge branch, Liam's main interests within the Union are health and safety, pensions and sports and social activities. He is also an active follower of Gaelic games.
Executive Committee Member - Ger Rowan
Gerardine Rowan joined Bank of Ireland in 1993. She is based in B365 in The Arena in Tallaght. Ger was a Bank District Secretary before being elected the Executive Committee in 2009. She represents staff in Dublin Retail along with B365 and the Customer Contact Centre.
Executive Committee Member - Tom Ruttledge
Starting work as a Bank Assistant in Bank of Ireland's Portlaoise branch in 1989, Tom joined IBOA shortly after. He became more actively involved in the Union in the early 1990s as a Branch Rep in Portlaoise and subsequently as a Bank District secretary in 2000. Tom was elected to the Executive Committee in 2007.
Executive Committee Member - Etain Ryan Lyons
Etain works in AIB's largest branch - Westmoreland Street, Dublin - where she is a Senior Bank Official on 'Choices.' A member of IBOA since 1979, she has been an IBOA Rep since 2000. First elected to the Executive Committee in October 2008, Etain sees job security, fair play and health and safety as key issues.
Executive Committee Member - Jaynette Stirling
A member of the Executive Committee since 2001, Jaynette has been an IBOA Rep in Ulster Bank since 1992. Employed in the Belfast City Office, Jaynette is a member-nominated trustee director of the Ulster Bank Pension Fund. She is also a member of the Ulster Bank Health and Safety Committee.
Executive Committee Member - Ursula Tighe
Employed as Bank Official in Cork City, Ursula has been a member of IBOA since 1992. A member of the Executive Committee since April 2009, Ursula has particular interests in safety, health and security issues and equality matters.
Executive Committee Member - Kate Varley
Employed in Private Banking in AIB Bankcentre in Ballsbridge, Kate Varley is a long-standing member of the Union's Executive Committee. Kate has also been President of the Irish Conference of Professional and Service Associations (ICPSA) since 2006.
